New downtown pole to feature Reconciliation Flag

Sep 5, 2024 | 3:20 PM

A second community flagpole will be installed in the Town of La Ronge.

At a recent regular council meeting, a decision was made to revise the current flag policy to allow for such a change. In addition, two more flagpoles will also be installed outside the municipal office.

The second community flagpole, which will be installed in Patterson Park next to the current community pole, will feature the Reconciliation Flag that will fly throughout the year. The first community pole is used only for special requests such as flying the Pride Flag and the national flag of the Philippines.

Outside the municipal office, there are currently flags for Canada, Saskatchewan and Reconciliation. Once the changes are made, the Canadian, Saskatchewan, Treaty 6, Métis Nation, and Town of La Ronge flags will be featured at that location.

Council has also decided to remove the four current flagpoles and replace them with a tilt style to improve staff safety when performing maintenance. The total cost of the project is expected to come in at approximately $25,000, plus the cost of the flags.

Administration was uncertain how long it would take for the changes to be made as it is dependent on how quick they are able to secure a contractor to complete the work.
