SHA investigating death at Prince Albert detox

A person who was placed in patient care for observation at the Brief and Social Detox Centre in Prince Albert, was later found deceased.

The confirmation from the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) comes after a request from paNOW. It also noted that on Sept. 4, the individual was initially referred from the Victoria Hospital emergency room.

“An investigation is underway following the incident and the SHA has no additional details to share at this time,” the SHA said.

When paNOW reached out to Donna Brooks, the CEO of Prince Albert YWCA, for comment she was surprised by the news and noted they’ve always had a good working relationship with the Brief and Social Detox.

Rural and Remote Health Critic Jared Clarke provided a statement:

“It’s tragic whenever someone dies while waiting for care. We’re awaiting the results of the provincial government’s investigation and are very concerned by this incident.”

This is a developing story and our newsroom will provide more information as it becomes available.
