UPDATE: Charges laid in suspicious death on Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation

UPDATE: A 20 year old man from Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation has been charged with manslaughter in connection to the death of 28 year old Denzel Cameron. The incident happened early Saturday morning when a firearm was discharged.

Clayton Mandes was arrested without incident and will appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday morning.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes are investigating a suspicious death after police responded to a weapons complaint on Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation.

Rosthern RCMP were called to a home on the reserve at around 2:20 Saturday morning where an initial investigation determined that a firearm was discharged inside the residence, injuring a 28-year-old man.

Officers along with paramedics provided medical assistance to the man, however, he later died of injuries. His name has not been released.

Police say there is no threat to public safety and more information will be released as it becomes available.

RCMP Major Crimes alongside Saskatoon and Prince Albert RCMP General Investigation Sections, RCMP Forensic Identification Section, Rosthern RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service all continue to investigate.
