It was a close contest but the Battlefords North Stars were unsuccessful Saturday night in their game against the Kindersley Klippers at the West Central Events Centre.

Despite outshooting Kindersley 42-31 in the matchup, the Klippers ended up taking the game 5-3.

In the first period, it was all Klippers as they got two early goals both coming from Alex Mack to take a 2-0 lead going into the second.

Then the Klippers came out hot again in the second period, grabbing two more goals, this time coming from Tristan Taylor and Rylan Wieler to take a 4-0 lead mid way through the second period.

After letting in four goals on 14 shots, Battlefords took out second year goalie Matthew MacArthur and sent in first year goalie and Kelowna product, Dylan Adams.

The North Stars continued to fight back and were finally able to get on the board with a goal from Colton Getzlaff near the end of the second to make it a 4-1 game.

For the third period, the North Stars really kicked it into gear, getting two early goals from Jackson Allan and Gavin Granger to close the gap and make it a one goal game. As the period went on, Battlefords continued to find good looks and keep the puck out of their zone.

The North Stars out shot the Klippers 19-10 in the period but that still wasn’t enough as the Klippers were able to grab one more goal from Ethan Sautner that sealed the deal for a 5-3 Kinderlsey win.

Just like the night prior, the North Stars struggled early on in the game but picked things up as the game went on and showed they have the skill and determination to fight back.

Dylan Adams was also impressive, stopping 16/17 shots in his first regular season game in the SJHL.

The North Stars next game is Saturday, Sept. 28 7:30 p.m. against the Nipawin Hawks at the Access Communications Centre.
