One person is in custody, and another is dead, following an ATV-related fatality in Northern Saskatchewan.

Black Lake RCMP received the report of an ATV-related injury at around 4:20 p.m. Monday on Highway 905, between Black Lake and Stony Rapids.

Upon arrival, police alongside local EMS treated an injured man at the scene, who had been a passenger on the ATV. He was transported to hospital shortly after where he later succumbed to his injuries. He has since been identified as a 31-year-old from Black Lake. His name was not released, and his family has been notified.

As a result of further investigation, the driver of the ATV, 30-year-old Jacy Yooya from Black Lake, was arrested and charged with one count each of dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death without firearm, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and failure to stop after accident resulting in death.

Yooya was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.

This is the second fatal ATV collision in Saskatchewan in less than a week.

A 14-year-old girl from Flying Dust First Nation died after an ATV crashed when it hit a ditch while trying to evade police on Saturday.

Black Lake RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist and the RCMP’s General Investigation Section.
