Meadow Lake incumbent Jeremy Harrison focuses on future growth

At the age of 26, he was the youngest Canadian elected to both the House of Commons and a provincial Legislative Assembly. Now Jeremy Harrison is preparing for his seventh election campaign.

The Sask. Party candidate said his focus on growing the economy and creating a promising future for younger generations has never wavered.

“It’s been my focus for 20 years, and it’s going to continue to be the focus as we go forward.”

Harrison, who grew up in the Meadow Lake area, wants to help grow the community so residents can choose to build a life in their home town, rather than having to relocate.

“That really has been a motivating factor for me and my kids, and they’re going to have an opportunity to make their life here in Saskatchewan. So that’s what we’re going to keep doing,” Harrison told battlefordsNOW.

“That’s the message we’re spreading. One door at a time here in the Northwest.”

Harrison was most recently minister of trade and export development and minister of immigration and career training. Since he entered provincial politics, he said he’s watched Saskatchewan increase its value by becoming a player in the global trading market.

“Last year, we had nearly $50 billion of exports. Our GDP in this province is about $77 billion. So, we export nearly 70 per cent of everything produced here, which is exported around the world,” he said. “My job in government has really been to develop that and export those export markets around the world.”

Harrison said the government is constantly working with local companies and exporters to find new markets and increase the value of exports to generate revenue for the province.

“That’s how we pay for things like new hospitals, schools and arenas. It doesn’t just happen, and this is something the NDP has never gotten and never will understand,” Harrison said.

Looking ahead, he said that if he is re-elected, he aims to strengthen the export market even more and collaborate with residents, businesses, and First Nations to build a stronger foundation for growth, investments, and employment opportunities for the people of Saskatchewan.

“I’ve been doing this for 20 years and delivering results and outcomes for folks and I think people know that.”

The 2024 Saskatchewan general election will be held October 28.

Other confirmed candidates for the Meadow Lake constituency includes Miles Nachbaur for the Saskatchewan NDP and Denis Allchurch for the Sask. United Party.
