Kent Lindgren seeking third council term

North Battleford City Council candidate Kent Lindgren is getting ready for his third municipal election campaign, which he says will focus on fostering community growth and driving economic development.

Lindgren believes he has the skills and desire to consult and build on the community’s strength to make significant decisions for the city.

“A lot of that work is focused on creating solutions as a community and addressing the root causes of our issues. How we create our strengths and success is really all tied together,” Lindgren said.

He said council is exploring new opportunities, including a new arena. He hopes his strategy of uniting people and fostering community will assist in making council decisions and ensure the community feels heard. He emphasized the importance of creating solutions as a community and addressing the root causes of their issues.

“One of our things is that we need to rely on where our knowledge is and rely on different people to come together with different knowledge, and that when we bring that all together, it really does lead to a better input, better decision-making,” he explained.

Lindgren is a local of North Battleford. He was first elected to council in 2016 and re-elected in 2022. He is the Director of Battlefords Family Health Centre, part of the Battle River Treaty 6 Health Centre.

In addition to his role at the health centre, he sits on the boards for the Canadian Mental Health Association-Battlefords Branch, Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, and Table Mountain Regional Park and serves as the chair of Destination Battlefords.

He pointed out he sees a lot of strength and potential in the city that is yet to be fully explored. He hopes that, with a third term, he can harness this potential and uplift the city.

“One of our big concerns and things we need to continue to address is our growth,” he said. “Helping to grow and develop our business community, look at economic development here and really amplify what we’re able to do there and what that also means for other parts of the community.”

He emphasized the need for close collaboration with regional and Indigenous communities to strengthen the city’s economic foundation. He said that will in turn further reconciliation efforts and continue inclusive growth within the municipality.

With the decisions and plans he has helped to make in the past two terms, Lindgren hopes to continue his work into the third term to make those projects a reality and bring policies that could benefit everyone.

The nomination deadline is Oct. 9. Municipal election day is Nov. 13. Other confirmed candidates include Alvin Baptiste, Rodney Fedler, Thomas (Bill) Ironstand, Dennis Mercer, Donald Meriam, Dan Suberlak and Alan Wiese.
