A Tisdale native has successfully completed the Glider Pilot Training Course (GPTC).

Flight Corporal Emily Sawchuk of 624 Tisdale, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron (RCACS) was one of three cadets from 624 RCACS chosen to attend Cadet Training Centres.

The cadets participated in courses including GPTC Introduction to Marksmanship and Staff Cadet.

“Glider has given me a new world of opportunities that I can’t wait to expand on. I’ve met many amazing people and great friends here. The challenges we were presented with gave us a rewarding experience on this course, for both cadets and flight staff alike,” Sawchuk said in a news release.

Upon successful graduation from GPTC, cadets earn their Transport Canada Glider Pilots License. Sawchuk has their pilot wings after completing the course this summer.

“The cadets at 624 RCACS are very active and engaged with training. They really enjoy participating in activities with other cadets within the province,” said Captain Velvet Pomedli, Commanding Officer.

The Cadet Program is open to youth from 12 to 18 years old and emphasizes development of skills including communication and teamwork.
