Melfort councillor Brian Enge seeks re-election in November

Oct 31, 2024 | 4:30 PM

A member of the current council in Melfort is looking to return to his chair.

Brian Enge had prior council experience before being elected as a councillor in 2020.

Enge told northeastNOW he’s a ‘Melfort lifer’ and wants his kids to grow up in a community, continue to live here, and raise their own families.

He said council needs to look to the future to promote business development and expansion and without that, his kids may not have the opportunity to make their lives here a reality.

Enge has worked for 16 years at Ripley Ford (formerly Melody Motors) and spent time on council from 2012 to 2016. He is a member of several local boards, including the Wapiti Regional Park Board and the Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce.

“I like to be involved in our community, I like to help,” said Enge. “My ultimate goal is to be able to help Melfort grow.”

While serving on council can often be a thankless job, Enge said he is always up to the task of doing the best he can for the community.

Infrastructure is one of the main topics that needs to be addressed, according to Enge. He said water and sewer lines are very old in some areas, and streets and sidewalks also need repair or replacement.

Recreation is a huge part of Melfort as well, with the city’s slogan “Play Melfort”. Enge said he wants to fulfill that promise by keeping the city vibrant. Housing also remains a major issue in the city, said Enge, adding the city needs to continue to work with contractors and developers to build housing in the city.

Health service expansion is also on Enge’s list. He said they are lucky to have a higher number of doctors in the city compared to communities of similar size.

“I feel very proud of what previous councils have done (to) have kept this many doctors in our community, and for that I thank the doctors, the nurses, the entire health staff in the northeast.”

Enge said should he be re-elected he would continue to work for the wonderful citizens of the community.

“I do want to see things grow, and with another four-year term, we can continue to see the growth that we are seeing, continue to see the investment in the community as far as infrastructure goes, and I will continue working hard for this community.”

Enge is one of nine people seeking councillor positions, while incumbent mayor Glenn George was elected by acclamation.

The municipal election is being held Nov. 13.
