Raiders look for rebound against Regina Pats

Last week, the Prince Albert Raiders went to Regina and took home a 5-1 win over the Pats to string together two wins for the first time of the season. After a less than stellar game against Swift Current on Friday, the Raiders are looking to bounce back as they head to Regina again Tuesday night.

The Raiders and Pats are both in the bottom three of the Eastern Conference, with the Pats ahead by just a single point. The Raiders are 4-8-2 on the season through 14 games, and the Pats are 5-9-1 through 15. The Raiders have won two of their last three games, 4-3 over Seattle at home, 5-1 over Regina on the road, and then most recently a tough 9-4 loss to Swift Current at home.

The Regina Pats on the other hand have lost their last five games, most recently a 10-5 loss at home to Medicine Hat, and 4-2 on the road in Swift Current. The last win for the Pats came against the Seattle Thunderbirds where the Pats won 8-0 at home.

The Pats goal differential has suffered since the game the Raiders played last week. Going into last week, the Pats scored 34 goals while giving up 38. But in the two games they’ve played since it’s now 42 goals for and 57 against, dropping their goal differential to -13. Regina is scoring about 2.8 goals per game.

The Raiders have scored more in less games, averaging 3.4 goals per game with 47 goals for, but two big losses to Vancouver and Swift Current have dropped their differential to -17 as they’ve given up 64 goals through 14 games.

Despite a rough game versus Swift Current, the Raiders powerplay was still effective enough to climb the standings up to fourth in the league at 27 per cent, and their penalty kill also climbed out of last in the league to 69.6 per cent. The Pats powerplay has dropped significantly, dropping from fourth in the league a week ago to now 17th at 20 per cent, and their penalty kill sits 12th in the league at 75.9 per cent.

With eight points in his last three games, Niall Crocker continues to lead the Raiders in scoring with 7G-12A-19P, followed by Aiden Oiring with 6G-11A-17P and six points in his last three games, and Tomas Mrsic sits third with 7G-9A-16P with four points in his last three games. Lukas Dragicevic has 1G-14A-15P and comes into the game with five assists in his last three games, and Justice Christensen has six points in his last four games.

Tye Spencer leads the Pats with 4G-6A-10P on the season with three points in his last two games. Zackary Shantz has been pointless in four games but sits tied for second in scoring with 4G-4A-8P, and Cole Temple comes into the game with two points in his last two games for 2G-6A-8P. Prince Albert’s Sportsman of the Year Tanner Howe made his return against the Raiders, and he’s got points in all three games for 4G-1A-5P on the season.

Finally on to goaltending, Max Hildebrand wasn’t his usual self against Swift Current and will want a few back as his save percentage took a small drop to 0.892 and a 4-6-2 record. Cooper Anderson came into the action in the second period and held his ground in the third to improve his save percentage to 0.890 with a 0-2 record in four games played.

For Regina’s goaltending, Kelton Pyne has lost his last two games, dropping his record to 4-5-1 through 11 games played and dropping his save percentage from third in the league to 13th with a 0.903. Ewan Huet has played in five games this year so far, earning a 0.865 save percentage and a 1-4 record.
