Mauri Young seeks second term

Nov 8, 2024 | 12:33 PM

Mauri Young is looking for a chance to serve Meadow Lake for another four years.

Answering questions via email, Young said she has been a part of the community for 44 years including school, raising a son and working as a business partner in Ron’s Plumbing and Heating and Meadow Lanes/Bear’s Den.

“I have an active involvement in my church and my hobbies are gardening, making homemade perogies, sausage and adult Kool-aid,” she said.

Over her tenure, which began during the pandemic, she said her time on council has been a learning process. Young explained that during her time on council she made a motion for a communication plan that was approved, developed and is now in the stages of being implemented.

Other areas she would like to see come to pass are taking and active role in other developments.

“I would like to be part of the planning and development of the former Stampede Grounds, the Westside commercial development and the city requirements for the new [Flying Dust First Nation] development,” said Young, adding that opening the Co-op Centre and 2026 Saskatchewan Winter Games would also be a perk.

Among some of the issues and concerns coming from the community include communication, infrastructure and the smell from the lagoon and said the first thing she would like to tackle should she be elected would be the budget.

“We had a budget meeting on October., 12 and [the] administration is going through the process of fine tuning it so that the new council can review and decide which ones to implement for next year,” she said.

“We would also be working on getting some of our vacant administration spots filled.”
