RM of N. Battleford to propose CPR be part of school curriculum

Nov 13, 2024 | 2:20 PM

The Rural Municipality of North Battleford No. 437 wants rural high schoolers to know first aid.

The RM has proposed that Saskatchewan Association for Rural Municipalities work with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health to develop the high school curriculum to ensure students have CPR training.

Next week the midterm convention is set to take place in Saskatoon and according to midterm resolution documents, the RM of North Battleford believes local teens could benefit from the training. Its due in part to the rural location, and long ambulance wait times.

“[It] would provide young adults with the necessary skills to know what to do in an emergency situation, including those that are life threatening,” the proposal read in part.

The training, the documents say would be “crucial to providing much needed care to the victim” until professional medical help [or] responders arrive to the scene.

The SARM midterm convention will be held November 20-21 at TCU Place.

BattlefordsNOW has reached out to Reeve Dan Bartko for comment on the proposal but at the time of publishing have yet to receive a reply.
