New board for Northern Lights School Division

The Northern Lights School Division (NLSD) has a new board of education.

In total, there are nine subdivisions represented within the NLSD and each elected board member will serve a four-year term.

Clifford Laprise was acclaimed in Subdivision 1 which includes La Loche, Joey McCallum was acclaimed in Subdivision 6 which includes Pinehouse Lake, and Marina Dumas was acclaimed in Subdivision 8 which includes Sandy Bay.

Myra Young (190 votes) was elected in Subdivision 2 which includes Buffalo Narrows and St. George’s Hill, Rick Laliberte (116) was elected in Subdivision 3 which includes Jans Bay, Cole Bay and Beauval, Rose Richardson (69) was elected in Subdivision 4 which includes Green Lake.

Joyce Torrie (36) was elected in Subdivision 5 which includes Stony Rapids, Morris Cook (123) was elected in Subdivision 7 which includes La Ronge, Timber Bay and Weyakwin, and Ingrid Maccoll (59) was elected in Subdivision 9 which includes Cumberland House.

There was a one-day delay in releasing the election results as a polling station Camsell Portage didn’t receive election supplies on time.

In 2023, the NLSD had 267.5 full-time teachers, 25.5 principals or vice-principals and 300.5 educational support staff. In total, it has nearly 700 full-time employees.
