North Stars complete weekend sweep over Weyburn

The Battlefords North Stars completed the weekend sweep against the Weyburn Red Wings last night as they won 4-3 at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn.

The North Stars came out to a strong start, getting the first two goals of the game from Treycen Wuttunee and Rylan Williams to go up 2-0 in the first.

The Red Wings were able to answer back though with two of their own, both on the powerplay, one from Cyprus Smith-Davis and the other from Max Chakrabarti to tie it going into the second.

There, both teams came out hard and physical, finding good chances to score but still neither team was successful. So it went to the third period all tied up but eventually, the tie broke as Rylan Williams took back the lead for the North Stars with a shorthanded goal, making it 3-2.

Then nearing the midway point of the third, Treycen Wuttunee found another goal for his second of the game and doubled the North Stars lead.

Weyburn had lots of chances near the end of the game to try and tie it back up as they had some powerplay opportunities, but the North Stars stayed strong, only allowing one more goal to win the game with a final score of 4-3.

The North Stars got outshot by the Red Wings 43-34, went 1/5 on the powerplay and stopped Weyburn four out of seven times on the penalty kill. Justen Maric had another great game stopping 40/43 shots and yet again, didn’t allow a five-on-five goal.

The North Stars now have an 11-5-2-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record and sit at 3rd overall in the league.

They are back in action this Tuesday, Nov. 19th as they go to Nipawin to take on the Hawks with puck drop at 7:00 p.m.
