North Stars unsuccessful in first game against Bruins

Nov 22, 2024 | 11:27 PM

It was a tough one for the Battlefords North Stars Friday night as they ended up falling short against the Estevan Bruins at Affinity Place in there first matchup this season.

The North Stars came out slow in the first period, letting the Bruins get the first two goals and take a 2-0 lead.

But near the end of the period, the North Stars answered back and were able to find a goal from Brett Boucher to close the gap and make it 2-1 going into the second.

In the second, the North Stars finally found some momentum with an early goal from Ryder Dembo, his first of the season, to tie the game 2-2.

The momentum didn’t last long though as both teams had trouble generating anything offensively and no more goals were scored in the period.

Coming out for the third, it was the Bruins that had the edge, getting an early goal from Cody Polumbus to retake the lead 3-2.

As the period went on, the North Stars tried to make something happen but it seemed there was no urgency as the clock was winding down and the game ended with a final score of 3-2 for the Bruins.

The North Stars got outshot 38 to 34 by Bruins, went 0/5 on the powerplay and stopped Estevan all five times on the penalty kill.

Battlefords record now stands at 11-6-2-1 with 25 points and they are tied for 4th overall in the league.

The North Stars will have a chance to bounce back tonight at they take on the Bruins again at Affinity Place.

Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. with the Napa Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast starting at 6:30 p.m. with the Ultra Print Pregame show on CJNB/CJNS.
