CEO suddenly parts ways with Northlands College

“It’s business as usual at Northlands College.”

That’s according to an email sent to larongeNOW by the educational institution when asked about the employment status of Karsten Henriksen, who served as the president and CEO of Northlands from September 2022 up until last week.

Michael McCormick is the new acting-president and CEO, and he had no comment in regards to the departure of Henriksen.

Henriksen is the third person to hold the top position at Northlands in the last six years. He replaced Guy Penney, who took the role in August 2019 and retired in June 2022. The CEO prior to Penney was Toby Greschner.

Henriksen had a rocky start with Northlands as within the first two months on the job he placed a vice-president on unpaid leave following her decision to run for council in the La Ronge municipal election. His decision to do so led to criticism from both Greschner and Penney.

During his time at Northlands, Henriksen led a Year of Transformation in 2023. The initiative was meant to reverse a 57 per cent decline in enrolment and create a new organizational structure.

Henriksen holds a Bachelor of Sociology, as well as a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on leadership and human security. He has considerable experience working in the post-secondary education field.

larongeNOW reached out to Henriksen for comment on his departure from Northlands, but didn’t receive a reply by publishing.
