Meadow Lake chamber urging shoppers to get ‘Holly Jolly’

Dec 4, 2024 | 1:04 PM

It’s become an annual promotion to encourage residents to shop local, while also getting into the Christmas spirit.

The Meadow Lake and District Chamber of Commerce members recently launched the Holly Jolly promotion. Anyone who makes a purchase in a participating store is entered into a ’12 Days of Christmas’ prize draw.

Chamber administrator Trevor Dignean said a Moonlight Madness late night shopping event at the end of November got the momentum going.

“This year, in discussions with a bunch of businesses that did the Moonlight Madness they had a very, very successful evening.”

That’s encouraging for Dignean who said Meadow Lake still has very transient shoppers who travel to Saskatoon or Lloydminster or purchase online.

Draws for the Holly Jolly promotion will be made Dec. 23.

Starting next week, locals can take in the Festival of Lights at the Meadow Lake Lions Campground.

“Different businesses and organizations will be setting up a light display in one of the campsites this weekend,” said Dignean. “Then we have a different group running the gates every night for seven nights and half of the proceeds go to them.”

The Museum and Historical Society will have hot chocolate available. You can see the campground glow with holiday cheer Dec. 9-15. Last year the drive-through Christmas light show averaged about 75 vehicles per night.
