Anonymous donor tops up Morin reward; family now offering $30K to find Ashley

Janine Morin and her family are shocked by an act of kindness from the community to help in the continued effort to find her sister Ashley.

“In all honesty, we are very grateful for the donation,” she said.

Last month, an anonymous resident donated $5,000 to the family and now the reward for information on Ashley’s whereabouts is $30,000.

Her sister, a member of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, disappeared six summers ago and the Morins have never stopped looking to bring their loved one.

“Some days are tough, some days are OK,” she said.

“Just happy that we have our family to lean on each other and support.”

The 31-year-old woman was last seen on July. 10, 2018 around 9:30 p.m. in North Battleford. During an RCMP investigation at the time, it was discovered that a van without rear windows was seen around the 96 Street and 16 Avenue area – the same area Ashley was last seen.

The following year, the police said they believed she was a homicide victim, but no remains have ever been found.

To keep the momentum going, Janine will be organizing another search this spring in undisclosed locations to reexamine areas that may have been missed.

“We’re still continuing meeting with the RCMP historical crime unit to follow up on their investigation,” she said, of the unit who took over the case file.

Janine hopes this increase will draw residents out.

“Somebody knows something,” she said.

“Silence is violence.”
