NLCDC donates $100K towards new Ronald McDonald House

A fundraising drive that will support a new Ronald McDonald house in Prince Albert, has received a $100,000 boost.

The donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities, was made by Northern Lights Community Development Corporation (NLCDC), and comes from a portion of the profits made at the Northern Lights Casino.

NLCDC General Manager Jeremy Seeseequasis told paNOW the project represents a long-term benefit to the families of Prince Albert.

“But it’s also a benefit to the entire catchment area that the northern lights community development serves so that includes our communities in the far north,” he said.

The decision to support the Miles to Go campaign comes after similar donations made by the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority and Athabasca Basin Development.

Seesequsis recalled that when they did their own presentation to Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Chiefs in attendance talked about their own experiences.

“For them this was a no-brainer to support. They know the work that Ronald McDonald house does for communities and for families is beneficial,” he said.

Since its inception in the early 2000’s, the NLCDC has donated over $100 million to different groups in the Prince Albert area, which includes the city of Prince Albert, the RM of Prince Albert, and the RM of Buckland.

The money invested has helped pay for projects at city parks and schools like a kitchen enhancement at John Diefenbaker to assist with their hot lunch program. Seeseequasis explained the NLCDC is always looking to expand its horizons and different initiatives to support. Going forward he noted his own personal desire to get the word out about what they do and cited the creation of a new social media page.

“I’ve been looking at the history of organizations this entity has funded and they’ve done a lot of great work over the years but the problem is a lot of people just don’t know what what they have done,” he said.

The designs plan for the spacious 12-room Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in Prince Albert was unveiled last June.

The total cost of the project is $8 million. Tammy Forrester, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities, previously explained they will get shovels in the ground when they reach 80 per cent.

Construction is expected to take about 18 months and the goal is to be open by early to mid 2026.
