Three people have been charged after an incident north of Prince Albert involving a stolen vehicle that failed to stop for police and the subsequent seizure of a large quantity of crystal meth.

The incident on Thursday, was initiated when an officer with Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert Traffic Services observed a speeding vehicle on Highway 355.

The officer activated their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop, however the driver did not obey and fled at a high rate of speed.

Prince Albert RCMP was advised to look out for the vehicle, which was observed travelling southbound on Highway 2.

Shortly after, officers located the suspect vehicle on Wahpeton Dakota Nation. Once again they attempted a traffic stop and once again the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

While officers pursued the vehicle, occupants threw a number of items in what officers believed was an attempt to disable their police vehicles. One of the items thrown at them was a loaded firearm. The firearm was later recovered and no injuries were reported.

The suspect vehicle came to a stop on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. The occupants were then arrested without incident.

Further investigation determined the vehicle had been reported as stolen to the Prince Albert Police Service. Officers located and seized a large lump and several individual packages of crystal methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Facing charges related to guns and drugs are 31-year-old Megan Merasty from Prince Albert, 27-year-old Nuqallak Arvaluk from Prince Albert and a male teenager from Wahpeton Dakota Nation.

They also each been charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
