NB city council sets dates for budget deliberations

With a new council and impending new year, comes then anticipated budget in mid-January.

In preparations of the new operating and capital budget as mandated by the Cities Act, the goals are simple: be efficient, transparent and operate smoothly.

There are three funds: general, underground pipe and asphalt replacement levy (UPAR) and utility. The utility budget was approved in October and will have an overview in the spring.

“We’ll be off to a little bit of a late start with budget but it hopefully won’t be too late for our departments to get things going for the 2025 capital season especially,” said Mayor Kelli Hawtin during Monday nigh’s meeting.

The following dates for budget deliberations are set as Jan. 7, Jan. 9, Jan. 15 and Jan. 20 and the anticipated passing on Thursday, Jan. 23.
