With curlers making their way down the sheets of pebbled ice as the backdrop, the Battlefords Hotels’ Association presented a cheque for $10,000 to Brandon Hall, general manager of Twin Rivers Curling Club on Thursday.

“It always helps ‘cause obviously, just like everything, we’ve got rising costs especially in the utility part of our business,” said Hall.

“Any bit helps, and this is obviously a pretty good chunk.”

According to Kyle Kellgren, president of the association, the group wanted to support the club.

“There’s a lot of people that come to the community to come to our beautiful facility we have here,” he said.

The cheque is presented annually, and Kellgren explained the group is open to organizations that create a draw for people to come to the community as they in turn become customers of the hotels.

“The curling club year in, year out has been asking us and talking about stuff, and they’ve proven that they bring big time events here,” he said of the year-round club.

“They support a lot of us so, we want to support them as they continue to grow.”

The group is made up of Canadian Motel North Battleford, Travelodge, Comfort Inn and Suites, the Tropical Inn, Jackfish Lodge, Gold Eagle Lodge and Holiday Inn Express.
