Town of Nipawin urging residents to volunteer for open board and committee positions

Dec 16, 2024 | 2:59 PM

The Town of Nipawin is looking for local residents to serve on several town boards and committees.

Chief Administrative Officer Michele Sorensen told northeastNOW the volunteers that serve in these positions are vital.

“They’re helping to represent the town and what the residents of the town are looking for,” Sorensen explained. “They’re…council’s voice on those committees.”

Representatives are needed for the Nipawin and District Living Forestry Museum, Nipawin and District Regional Park, Nipawin Library Board, Wapiti Regional Library Board, and the Wapiti Valley Regional Park Board.

Sorensen said those organizations can’t operate without having a board of directors and local volunteers help fill those boards.

“The people that we have on the boards in the past are so valuable to us,” said Sorensen, who added having newcomers to Nipawin join the boards also helps bring a new perspective and fresh ideas.

“It’s good to have a mix of both.”

Anyone interested in participating in this community service can email or call the town, and Sorensen said they appreciate anyone who volunteers in these positions.

Appointments to the boards and committees will be made at Nipawin’s next council meeting, Jan. 13.
