Carpenter High School evacuated due to bomb threat

UPDATE: According to the school board, Carpenter High School has been cleared of the threat. Classes will resume tomorrow.

Just before 5 pm, RCMP confirmed that a bomb threat was the cause of the evacuation.

Police said they got the call shortly after 9, however no bomb or suspicious items were found either in the school or surrounding area. RCMP are aware of other threats made in other Canadian schools and the Meadow Lake investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile the Meadow Lake detachment wishes to thank the school, the Northwest School Division No. 203 and the City of Meadow Lake for their cooperation and communication

Residents are being asked to avoid the area around Carpenter High School in Meadow Lake.

The school had to be evacuated this morning after receiving a threat around 10 a.m. The city sent a Voyant alert at 10:41 a.m.

All students who could drive were able to leave while others who walked, bussed or were dropped off were evacuated to Jonas Samson Middle School.

The attached North West College was also evacuated as a precaution. In a news release, the college said it enacted its emergency action plan to ensure the safety of all students and staff. The Meadow Lake campus will be closed for the day and evening classes have also been cancelled.

RCMP said they will be at Carpenter High until it is determined that there is no longer a threat.
