Extreme cold warning issued for Prince Albert

Dec 17, 2024 | 3:45 PM

Jack Frost may be biting at your nose tonight.

An extreme cold warning has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada. Windchills tonight and overnight are expected to in the range of minus 40 and minus 45.

These conditions put everyone at risk, however risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin.

Anyone travelling is reminded to keep emergency supplies in their vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables.

And if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Temperatures are expected to be in the single digits for the weekend.

Yesterday, city council said that a $150,000 provincial grant for warmup shelters would be used to expand the available locations for people who need a spot to get out of the cold.

No new place will be created, but the hours of availability for current spaces could expand.
