A Melfort Mustang is a Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) standout for December.

Kristian Coombs was named First Star of the Month by the CJHL.

The 19-year-old Calgary product won all seven starts in December as the Mustangs were undefeated in the month.

Coombs had a 1.57 goals against average and .931 save percentage in the final month of 2024, as the Mustangs were named the second ranked team in the CJHL’s Top 20 rankings list.

Melfort’s star goalie leads the SJHL in wins with 19, goals against average at 1.98, and his .927 save percentage is tied for second in the league.

Coombs also has three shutouts this season, tied for tops in the SJHL.

The Mustangs will be at home for a pair of games this weekend.

Friday night they will host the La Ronge Ice Wolves, and Saturday they take on the Yorkton Terriers.

Melfort will look to start another winning streak, as they had their 17-game streak stopped in North Battleford on Tuesday.
