A 22-year-old man is behind bars awaiting a bail hearing after officers with Prince Albert’s Proactive Police Unit attempted to pull over a driver who taunted them and did not comply twice.

Kristopher Sylvester will remain in custody at least until his show cause (bail) hearing in Provincial Court on Wednesday.

Police said that on January 10, around 7:30 pm, they saw a vehicle that had been involved in multiple incidents of not pulling over for officers driving in the 2800 Block of Sixth Avenue East, which is several blocks west of Safeway.

The driver began taunting police and did not stop when the lights were activated. Instead, he began evading them so officers disengaged to maintain public safety.

They found the vehicle again in the 2800 Block of Fifth Avenue East and the driver once again began taunting officers and did not pull over.

Not long after that, officers found a two-vehicle collision at Sixth Avenue East and 28th Street East that involved the suspect vehicle. The driver had run away on foot but was found and arrested very shortly afterwards.

A search of the vehicle turned up suspected methamphetamine. The person in the second vehicle was taken to hospital by paramedics.

Sylvester has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving, impaired driving, failing to provide samples, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a weapon, evading police, driving while banned and failing to comply with a probation order.
