Raiders offense pours it on against Swift Current

The Prince Albert Raiders came into Friday’s action against the Swift Current Broncos having already won their last two games in very different ways, a low scoring grind-it-out defensive effort, and a back and forth offensive battle. Friday the Raiders found another to win, dominating from the first puckdrop to the last to win 7-1.

The scoring started at 5:01 for the Raiders after Justice Christensen made a great play on the left wall to get the puck out while on his back side. Christensen didn’t get credit for an assist as Tomas Mrsic got the puck out to centre on a 2-on-1 with Riley Boychuk, and Mrsic made a great feed through the middle for Boychuk to rip it home for his seventh of the year.

At 7:04, the Raiders scored again when Dayce Derkatch brought the puck in down the left wall. He finessed a great pass in towards the middle and Lukas Dragicevic made a great spin move as he received the puck that both protected the puck from a pokecheck and got Dragicevic in position to shoot, and he did for his ninth of the season.

A minute later at 8:04, the Raiders added to the lead when Aiden Oiring won a puck battle in the corner and sent the puck into the slot for Mrsic. He onetimed it in tight, and Mrsic had his 24th of the season.

The Broncos would score on the powerplay at the 17:27 when Hunter Mayo dumped the puck in from the point for Rylan Gould. He found a passing lane across the front of the net for Luke Mistelbacher, and he scored his 29th of the season.

After 1: Raiders 3 – 1 Broncos, shots 11-11

The scoring continued early in the second as Rilen Kovacevic kept his hot streak alive. Vojtech Vochvest collected his first point of the season on a breakout pass to Kovacevic to set him up on a 2-on-1 with Niall Crocker. Kovacevic looked to Crocker, faking the pass and gaining some extra space before he fired it home for his third as a Raider and his 24th of the season.

At 5:59, Justice Christensen and Daxon Rudolph connected at the blueline again like they have so much lately. Ty Meunier got an assist for sending the puck back to the point for Rudolph, and he sent a pass across the blueline to set up Christensen on the onetimer for his 13th of the year.

At 18:09, the Oiring found the puck at centre and sent it to Mrsic on the left wall. Oiring went to the front of the net hard as Mrsic slowed up entering, and Oiring’s screen opened up a passing lane for Brayden Dube streaking into the slot, and he fired his 19th of the season.

After 2: Raiders 6 – 1 Broncos, shots 13-7 Broncos, 24-18 Broncos overall

The Raiders fended off the Broncos powerplay twice and gave up one goal in the first two periods, but they never got a powerplay of their own until the second half of the third period on a long 5-on-3. On that man advantage, Mrsic set up Dragicevic for a onetimer that was stopped, and Niall Crocker found the rebound for his 17th of the year.

FINAL: Raiders 7 – 1 Broncos, shots 15-10 Raiders, 34-33 Broncos overall

The Raiders dominated almost the entire game, other than about a 10 minute section in the second period where they took the foot off the pedal a bit.

Max Hildebrand stopped 33 of 34 shots faced through the night, earning a 0.971 save percentage on the night. Over the course of this Raiders three game winning streak, Hildebrand has managed 87 saves on 92 shots for a 0.945.

The Raiders will go back to work Saturday night as they take on the Red Deer Rebels at home.
