‘Homey feeling’: Comfort Inn and Suites awards $10K grand prize to hotel patron

Comfort Inn and Suites North Battleford awarded $10,000 to a loyal guest who won the grand prize in the hotel’s 2025 promotional giveaway.

Roy Hoffart, who has stayed at the hotel since it was established in 2018, was the big winner and was presented with a cheque for the cash winnings on Jan. 14.

“I think I have stayed in every room,” Hoffart said.

“I have come up here probably one or two nights a week for the last four years. I started staying here at the Comfort Inn right after they built it, even before the elevators worked. The staff is really good. It’s just like at home. It’s a really good homey feeling.”

The hotel’s co-owner-operator, Darin Manegre, said the promotion was a great way to give back to the hotel patrons and foster a sense of community involvement.

“Seeing people and getting involved in the community, and helping out in any way we can,” Manegre added.

When Hoffart was asked about his feelings upon winning the prize, he described it as “unbelievable.”

“That’s really good. I phoned my wife after Glenn [hotel’s staff] called me, and she was excited. She couldn’t believe it either because we’d won the free supper and stuff, but the 10 grand — yeah, that’s really nice.”

“It keeps the city growing. I lived here [The Battlefords] from 2003 to 2012, so when I come back and see the city still growing, it’s nice to see,” Hoffart said.

Looking ahead, he said he might put the money into savings or treat himself and his wife to a “sweet escape.”

“Probably go on a holiday. We don’t know if we’re going to someplace warm or if we will try to stay in Canada this summer,” he said.
