FIRST-DEGREE MURDER

Lyle Night Jr. murder case adjourned to next month

Jan 22, 2025 | 1:03 PM

The case of two suspects charged with first-degree murder in the death of Lyle Night Jr. will be adjourned to February in North Battleford Provincial Court.

Brody Runningaround and Malyka Nahbexie first appeared in early January and were scheduled to make their second appearance on Wednesday morning.

However, their Legal Aid representatives asked Judge Kevin Hills to adjourn the case for two weeks so they could familiarize themselves with the case structures and speak to the Crown prosecutors.

Hills approved the request, and they will appear in court by phone or video on Feb. 5.

Runningaround and Nahbexie are both accused in Night Jr.’s death on the Saulteaux First Nation. According to a police report, at approximately 4:50 a.m. on Jan. 2, Battlefords RCMP received a call and found him in serious condition, who was pronounced dead by paramedics shortly after their arrival.

Due to the suspicious nature of the death, the investigation is taken over by the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes unit. In the meantime, they will remain in custody at Pine Grove Correctional Centre in Prince Albert.
