Mintos defenceman, netminder named to NAHC Team Sask. roster

Two Prince Albert Mintos will be heading west this spring for the 2025 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC).

The tournament is set to be held this May in Kamloops, B.C. where Mintos rookie defenceman Staiden Parenteau and veteran goaltender Josh Henry will help Team Saskatchewan claim a gold medal.

Parenteau is in his first full season with the Mintos., recording seven assists in 33 contests this year so far. The 15-year-old spent the last two seasons with the U15 AA Prince Albert Pirates, tallying 37 points (4G-33A) with 22 penalty minutes across 55 games. He was also drafted into the SJHL in 2024, going 12th overall in the first round to the Flin Flon Bombers.

Henry, who’s in his second season with the Mintos, holds an even 9-9-1 (W-L-OTL) record to go along with a 3.95 GAA and a .893 SV%. Across his AAA career, the 6’4”, 194lb puck-stopper had a 17-16-2 record in 37 appearances with a 3.31 GAA and a .893 SV%. He heard his name called at the 2023 SJHL Draft, selected 46th overall in the fourth round to the Melfort Mustangs. The 2025 installment of the NAHC will be the second time he’s competed at the tournament.

Former Minto and Prince Albert product Owen Nelson was also named to the team for the second year in a row. He played for the Mintos for two full seasons from 2022-24 and now plays in the SJHL for the Mustangs.

The 2025 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships run from May 4-11 in Kamloops, B.C.
