Night two of three games in three nights saw the Prince Albert Raiders head out on the road to take on the Regina Pats. While the Raiders five game winning streak was snapped thanks to a late comeback, the Raiders will keep their point streak alive with a 3-2 loss in the shootout.

The Raiders started out the game well, out chancing the Pats in the first 15 minutes of the game and they got on the board at 7:45. As the Pats were trying to leave the zone, Aiden Oiring pickpocketed one of the Pats defenders and gave the puck to Tomas Mrsic on the left wall. With everyone already leaving the zone, Mrsic found Brayden Dube alone in the slot, and he beat the goaltender for his 21st of the year.

In the final five minutes of the period, the Pats found some chances, but Dimitri Fortin stood tall and kept the Raiders ahead. At the end of the period, Pats forward Keets Fawcett would give a late shot on the pads to Raiders goaltender Dimitri Fortin, and Rilen Kovacevic would come in to protect his goaltender. Kovacevic and Fawcett recieved roughing minors, making it 4-on-4 for the final minute.

After 1: Raiders 1 – 0 Pats, shots 10-7 Pats

Still 4-on-4 to start the period, the Raiders had a great chance early when Dube broke into the zone and ripped a shot off the post. Niall Crocker had a good chance early in the period as well when he had a great tip that snuck through Kelton Pyne, but Crocker couldn’t reach the loose puck behind Pyne in time before it was covered.

Dimitri Fortin made the save of the night in the WHL in the second period. A shot from the point came through four a stack of four bodies in front of the goal and Fortin made that stop, but one of his own teammates knocked Fortin down with the puck still loose in the crease. A Regina forward would streak to the net and try to find the back of the net, but Fortin laid out on his side stayed strong with his stick and was able to sweep the puck off the goal line and keep his team aged.

After 2: Raiders 1 – 0 Pats, shots 10-5 Pats, 20-13 Pats overall

With Kovacevic in the box again to start the period for offsetting roughing minors, this time the Raiders were on the powerplay and they capitalized on their first chance of the night. Daxon Rudolph picked up an assist to extend his point streak to 11 games when he fed the puck to Mrsic, and he set up Lukas Dragicevic on the onetimer from the middle of the blueline for his 10th of the season just 55 seconds into the period.

The Raiders gave up a 5-on-3 powerplay near the halfway mark for a full 1:21, and while they did kill off the initial penalty, the Pats scored 5-on-4 when Keets Fawcett got a chance from the point to get the Pats within one at 9:27.

Just 23 seconds later, the Pats tied it. The puck was dumped in directly on Fortin, and as he went to cover the puck it took a hop off of his pads and popped out in front of him, and Cameron Kuzma tipped the puck over Fortin at 9:50 to tie the game.

After 3: Raiders 2 – 2 Pats, shots 10-5 Pats, 30-18 Pats overall

Helped by a powerplay in overtime, the Raiders were all over the Pats in overtime, but Kelton Pyne between the pipes had other ideas. He made two incredible saves on Mrsic and Kovacevic on seperate rushes that sent this game into a shootout.

This shootout only needed three rounds as all three shooters for the Pats would score, but the Raiders failed to score in the first round and the Pats would hand the Raiders their first loss in the shootout of the season.

FINAL (SO): Raiders 2 – 3 Pats, shots 5-1 Raiders, 31-23 Pats overall

The Raiders will get a rematch with the Pats on Wednesday, but before that the Raiders finish their three games in three nights stretch against the Saskatoon Blades.
