Council to discuss Leisure Centre, Métis development and impound lot

Jan 27, 2025 | 3:26 PM

Council for the City of Prince Albert will have a variety of items on this evening’s agenda.

Staff are looking to apply for council approval to apply funding from the Canada Community Building Fund to the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre.

The federal per capita funding used to be called the Gas Tax and is to be used to help municipalities pay for capital projects and will continue until 2034. Prince Albert’s share for the next five years is just over $12 million. After that, the money will reflect 2026 census numbers.

Another item before council is the sale of an undeveloped part of 30th Street to the Métis Nation for $1.

Council has previously reviewed this item and already closed that part of the road through bylaw as part of their deal with the Métis Nation, which has a Child Care and service centre under construction now and also plans to build street townhouses near there.

Administration is also looking for council approval to update two deals related to its impound lot.

The towing contract it has with Auto Rescue Towing needs to be added to and their lease with the SPCA to use part of their property for the city impound lot needs to be renewed.

The council meeting starts at 5 p.m. and can be viewed online via the city’s website on a livestream.
