Police arrest man with knife near West Hill business

Jan 30, 2025 | 10:03 AM

A 28-year-old man is in custody after being chased by Prince Albert Police officers in the West Hill area yesterday afternoon.

Officers were first called just before 5 p.m. to the 3200 Block of 4th Avenue West for a report of a man threatening another man with a knife.

The responding officers found the complainant unharmed and learned that the victim had approached the suspect at a homeless encampment near Laurier Drive and 4th Avenue West.

The suspect had pulled out the knife and brandished it at the victim.

As officers searched the area, they found a man who matched the suspect’s description in the 2900 Block of 2nd Avenue West (near the South Hill Lodge).

When the man ran on foot, officers chased him about a block where he continued to resist arrest but was taken into custody shortly afterwards.

He now faces charges of assault with a weapon, two counts of resisting arrest and failing to comply with a release order.

He made his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court Thursday morning and although encouraged not to speak, claimed not to know the person he was accused of threatening.

He was remanded to Friday morning.
