‘Our dedicated core remains intact’: Doug Forster named interim leader of Sask. United Party

Saskatchewan United Party welcomes Doug Forster as the new interim leader following Jon Hromek’s resignation at the end of 2024.

Forster represented the party in Yorkton last October’s election but lost to David Chan of the Saskatchewan Party.

In the party’s statement issued on Friday, he emphasized resilience and a commitment to strengthening Sask. United over the next four years in preparation for the 2028 provincial election.

He acknowledged that their first electoral attempts fell short of expectations and pointed out that the party made an impact on the province’s political landscape.

“We have genuinely moved the needle of Saskatchewan politics and should take pride in what we accomplished for the people of this province,” he noted.

Over the next four years, he said the party will focus on regrouping and expanding its influence, reinforcing its core message that “Saskatchewan deserve better.” He framed the 2028 election as the major opportunity for them to push for change.

“Our dedicated core remains intact, and you can be assured that this party is alive and well despite some notable changes that have occurred since the election,” he stated.

“Together, we will continue to plant the Sask United message in the soil of Saskatchewan as we prepare for the Provincial election in 2028.”

In addition, Forster is a member of the City of Yorkton Planning Commission, a director at the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the Rhythm and Ribs organizing committee with the East Central Health Foundation.
