Feb 7, 2025 | 4:06 PM

The City of Meadow Lake is considering the possibility of a community with more affordable housing thanks to new federal funding.

During a January council meeting Councillor Connie Marsh-Yuhasz submitted a report asking that the council have administration look into the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) and report their findings in mid-March.

“One of the key issues in our community is a shortage of housing and affordable housing for our residents,” read the report presented to council in part, noting there is space that could be developed.

“The Housing Accelerator Fund is intended to drive transformational change within the sphere of control of the local government regarding land use planning and development approval.”

According to the report, the federal fund is open to communities that have less than 10,000, is a territory or an Indigenous government.

Those who are approved can use the funds the HAF action plans, affordable housing or community-related housing supports

Funding will be available until 2027-28.
