MN-S planning for eight tiny homes in Northwest Sask.

Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN-S) has plans to develop eight tiny homes in northern communities.

That’s according to a request for proposals (RPF) issued by MN-S for the construction, site preparation, and transportation of tiny homes at five locations in Northern Region 2. While a contractor will be responsible for developing six of the homes, carpentry students with Gabriel Dumont Institute in Buffalo Narrows will build the remaining two.

According to the RPF, the tiny homes will be 324-square-feet and will be as energy efficient as possible. They will be placed in St. George’s Hill, Turnor Lake, Black Point, Michel Village and Bear Creek.

“MN-S would prefer that all work is performed within the 2025 calendar year with all eight tiny homes [be] ready for turn-key occupancy no later than Dec. 31, 2025,” the RPF states.

“MN-S intends to add solar panels to the tiny homes as funding becomes available, so the tiny home structural and electrical elements should support this addition.”

MN-S has already placed a tiny home at Timber Bay. The home was provided at no cost through a grant from Correctional Services Canada with MN-S being required to move the building on site, as well as pay for aspects such as connecting the home to utility services.

In December 2024, Prince Albert city council approved two re-zonings that will pave the next step of the way for MN-S to build a subdivision of tiny homes. The subdivision includes 35 lots and is located south of the Alfred Jenkins Field House.
