Over 500 young dancers, representing 11 different studios in the province, have gathered at Prince Albert’s E.A. Rawlinson Centre.

Dance Blast started on Thursday and will wrap up on Sunday afternoon. Board Executive President Brittany Greaves noted the tremendous work that goes into preparing for an event of this size.

“We are a board of 12 and our board plans this event throughout the entire year,” she said.

Among the communities represented are Prince Albert, Tisdale, Cudworth, Carrot River, Warman, and Birch Hills, and the adjudicators have travelled from Calgary. And while there is a scoring component, Greaves also stated it’s meant to be a fun competition.

“We give out 12,000 to 15,000 in awards money to our dancers, along with some cute little awards called our sugar blast awards”

On Friday, both the parking lot at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre and the north lot of the Gateway Mall were completely full. Greaves acknowledged the event does provide an economic boost for the city.

“All these people from out of town are staying in our city, whether at a hotel or an Airbnb. They’re also eating at our restaurants and supporting our city,” she said.
