Mark Carney raised $4.5 million in two-month Liberal leadership race
Mark Carney’s leadership campaign said he’s fundraised a whopping $4.5 million during the Liberal party’s short, two-month race to replace outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
All the visible signs point to a significant lead for the former governor of the Bank of Canada, with a large swath of the Liberal cabinet and caucus backing him as he leads in polls and fundraising.
His spokesperson Emily Williams said the campaign raised the funds from more than 20,000 Canadians, and called it the “fastest” fundraising leadership campaign in Canadian history. No other candidate in the race scratched seven figures.
Liberals elect their next leader on Sunday and the campaigns are making their final get-out-the-vote push as they seek to rally grassroots support from across the country and energize their volunteers.
