Trial cancelled, One Arrow murder case delayed

A murder case from the Prince Albert area, involving allegations of domestic violence, is facing delays.

Harry Paul’s trial was scheduled to start Monday morning at Court of King’s Bench in Prince Albert, but instead his council was granted leave to withdraw.

The case now returns to the pre-trial docket and the next scheduled sitting is on April 4.

In November, 2022, 24-year-old Monique Gamble was found deceased at a residence on the One Arrow First Nation.

Wakaw RCMP had received a call of a sudden death. Paul was 21 at the time of his arrest and police have previously stated he and the victim knew each other. He was charged with second degree murder.

Karen Daniels, the victim’s mother, later told paNOW they had been involved in a common law relationship. The couple also had a three-year-old son who is being looked after by his grandparents.

“He has a hard time sleeping,” Daniels noted, adding she had been unable to try and find the words to tell the young child why his mother had not come home.

In addition to working at the community’s youth centre, a job she was very passionate about, Gamble had also been attending school but had dropped out. When asked by her mother if Paul had anything to do with it, Gamble replied yes.

“I told her be very careful and I’ll come check on you like I usually do. She goes OK love you mom and then that was the last time [we spoke],” Daniels explained. “When it comes to my daughter I just miss her and love her.”
