843 outstanding warrants out of Prince Albert: Police

Mar 13, 2025 | 12:00 PM

There are a total of 843 outstanding warrants out of Prince Albert.

That information was provided to paNOW by the Prince Albert Police Service, upon a request to respond to a pilot project announced earlier this week by the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS).

A Warrant Enforcement Unit aimed at enhancing community safety will address the significant number of outstanding Criminal Code warrants in their city.

Currently, there are approximately 6,400 outstanding Criminal Code warrants in Saskatoon, with 5,000 of those having been issued since January 2023.

“Comprised of one sergeant and four constables, the unit will focus on executing arrest warrants for individuals who have failed to appear in court or have active criminal charges,” the SPS explained.

The Warrant Enforcement Unit will operate as a uniformed presence within the SPS, working in collaboration with other police units to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

When paNOW asked the Prince Albert Police Service if this was something they be interested in, they explained warrant enforcement is an ongoing effort that members are constantly working on in addition to every day calls for service.

In November 2024, our Proactive Policing Unit also conducted a project focused specifically on warrant enforcement; however, at this time the Prince Albert Police Service does not have the capacity to establish a unit dedicated to warrant enforcement in the city.”

November’s project led to 49 arrests and 114 warrants were executed. Those warrants included but are not limited to offences such as, breaching court-ordered conditions, assault, break and enter, sexual assault, theft under $5000, and possession of a weapon.

In addition to assisting with complex investigations, the province’s new Marshals service will also have the task of finding high-risk/prolific offenders, a job description shared with the RCMP’s Warrant and Enforcement Suppression Team (WEST).

“Members of our leadership team have been part of ongoing engagement with the Saskatchewan Marshals Service to discuss how both agencies can work together as a benefit to the community and each other. As of right now, it would be premature to comment further as that working relationship is still being established,” the statement from the Prince Albert Police Service explained.

The Saskatchewan Marshals Service is planning to be operational this summer, about one year sooner than they previously expected.
