Tisdale seeking volunteers for EMO committee

Mar 13, 2025 | 11:00 AM

The Town of Tisdale is looking for volunteers for its Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) Planning Committee.

They are re-organizing the EMO Planning Committee in order to update the Town of Tisdale’s EMO plan.

The town hosted a well-attended meeting recently as they look for volunteers that are interested in community service and emergency planning. In a social media post, the town said they are dedicated to building a safer and more resilient community, and the EMO planning committee is “eager to collaborate with various groups to develop a comprehensive emergency plan.”

“We are accepting volunteers from various groups that can contribute both knowledge and experience to emergency planning,” said Tisdale CAO Lovely Magnaye.

Tisdale’s Emergency Measures Bylaw states that the committee must be comprised of “representatives of all departments and agencies that have an emergency role, from fire, police, health, social services, transportation, communications, engineering, public information, animal management and such other persons that may be deemed necessary to formulate a municipal emergency plan.”

The new EMO Co-ordinator has also been named. Ron Pratt comes to the position after being a fire chief for over 30 years, and Magnaye said he has also had some training with emergency planning.

Tisdale’s Emergency Measures Bylaw states that the EMO Co-ordinator acts as a Chairman of the Emergency Measures Planning Committee and coordinates the development of an emergency plan for the community, in cooperation with the departments and agents of the municipality, among many other duties.

Magnaye said the Emergency Measures Organization will be activated in case of an emergency. Once a state of emergency is declared, a municipality can get support from both the provincial and federal governments.
