Allan, Willow Cree set to battle for TRHL title

Mar 15, 2025 | 11:47 AM

The finals for the Twin Rivers Hockey League (TRHL) is set to get underway on Saturday.

It’s first place versus second place in this years final as the Allan Flames faceoff with the Willow Cree Chiefs. The Flames ended the regular season at the top with a 13-2-1 (W-L-OTL) record while the Chiefs tied for second at 12-4-0.

Allan and Willow Cree met just once in the regular season where the Chiefs dominated with a 9-2 triumph. Darwin Morin had a goal and five assists in that game for Willow Cree, while Trent Campbell had five goals and Talon Thomas also had five assists. For Allan, Evan Pasternak had a goal and an assist as Cam Brossart scored the other Flames marker and Boston Maxwell added a helper of his own.

En route to the finals, Allan had to take down the defending league champions Birch Hills Blackhawks in the Eastern Final, where the Flames won the series 3-1. Birch Hills got the upper hand early though, taking Game 1 of the best-of-five, 6-3. From there on, Allan had a firm grasp on the Blackhawks winning the next three games and taking the series in commanding fashion, winning 6-2 in Game 2, 7-1 in Game 3, and 8-3 in Game 4. Prior to that in the first round, the Flames knocked off Cudworth 2-1 in a best-of-three.

For Willow Cree, the Chiefs also won the Western Final by a 3-1 series score, downing the Rosthern Wheat Kings. Willow Cree had a 2-0 advantage with a chance to sweep the series heading into Game 3 but Rosthern was resilient and managed to stave off elimination with a 7-4 win on the road. But the Wheat Kings couldn’t repeat that same performance later that week in Game 4, as the Chiefs sunk Rosthern with a narrow 4-3 victory behind a Campbell hat-trick.

Entering the series, Willow Cree’s Campbell leads the league in playoff points with 19 in just four games. He’s followed by Thomas who has 11 points and Morin with 10, along with Thien Gamble and Greg Cameron Jr. who both have nine. In goal, Nathan Dancy leads the Chiefs with a 3-1-0 record to go with a 4.50 GAA and .901 SV% in four games.

Meanwhile, Allan is led by Brossart and Casey Knight who each have 14 points in seven games. Not far behind is Brodie Senger with 12 points, Keith Mitchell with 11, and Boston Maxwell with nine. Between the pipes, Robbie Hufnagel has been the go-to guy for the Flames with a 4-0-0 record, a 1.80 GAA, and a .937 SV% in five playoff appearances.

Puck drop for Game 1 of the best-of-five finals is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 15 in Allan at 8 p.m. Game 2 is set for 8 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 21 at Beardy’s Memorial Arena, before Game 3 shifts back to Allan a day later on Saturday, Mar. 22 at 8 p.m. If needed, a Game 4 is slated for Friday, Mar. 28 in Beardy’s at 8 p.m., while a possible series deciding Game 5 has yet to be scheduled.
