North Stars fall short of comeback in Game 1 against Weyburn
It was Game 1 of the first round of playoffs last night for the Battlefords North Stars and after an exciting close contest, they fell short 4-3 in a comeback attempt against the Weyburn Red Wings at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn.
For the first period, the North Stars came out at full throttle, creating good rushes and putting constant pressure on the Red Wings. Then just past the midway point of the period, Elijah Anderson got awarded a penalty shot on a breakaway and converted on it to open the game and take a 1-0 lead.
As the period went on, both teams continued to battle every possession and no one was able to add to the scoreboard, so the period went to the intermission 1-0 for Battlefords.
Coming out for the second though, thats when the tide started to turn. After a few North Star penalties, the Red Wings were able to covert on two powerplays to take a 2-1 lead. Then throughout the rest of the period, the North Stars play really started to slow down, resulting in not one but two more goals for Weyburn to go up 4-1 going into the third.
