Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre at 99% complete, phased opening starts next week

A phased reopening will soon begin at the anticipated Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre, with ice times already available for March 31.

The facility is now 99 per cent complete and contractors handed over the keys to the city last month. Further programming and facility access is expected to take place over the coming months with a full opening ceremony planned for later this summer.

“We’re currently hiring staff and moving in furniture. We’re working on safety protocols and signage and yes, a phone number for our new facility. All of this started once we got the keys,” Jody Boulet, the city’s director of parks, recreation and culture, said. “We can’t wait to welcome residents and visitors to this amazing facility, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience as we open everything up in stages.”

To prepare for public access, workers are cleaning the building, installing networking infrastructure, signage, and security measures.

So far, birthday party bookings, the concession and vending machines will not be available at this time. Commercial space within the facility is still under development.

As to ice bookings, spring skating camps and ice rentals are available for booking, either by calling 306-953-4848 or online. During the skating camps the facility will be open weekdays after 4 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Aquatics programming will occur in a phased rollout. Lifeguard training sessions are scheduled for March and April. Public swimming, lane swimming and equalize will open later this spring to support lifeguard training.

The Kinsmen Water Park will open the first week of June, and the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre will temporarily close during July and August before reopening in the fall.
