Mustangs falter late, series extended to Game 5

Mar 27, 2025 | 9:16 AM

The Melfort Mustangs were 20 minutes away from Round 2 Wednesday night, until they weren’t.

Melfort led the Kindersley Klippers 2-0 after two periods, before Kindersley came storming back.

After the Klippers scored twice to tie it and send it to overtime, they needed just over five minutes in the extra frame to force a Game 5.

“All I can say is undisciplined penalties, you can’t be taking those in playoffs, especially in the third period when you’re up two goals. That just can’t happen, so now we’re gonna have to get back to work and we’re gonna practice today, and get ready for Game 5,” said Mustangs’ assistant coach Tye Scherger.

“They’re gonna come hard in Game 5, and we gotta respect that. They work hard, that’s what they’re made of, so we just gotta get back and reset and be ready for Saturday.”

Game 5 will take place Saturday night at the Northern Lights Palace as the Stangs will now look to get the job done at home.

Puck drop will be 7:30 p.m., with the pregame show starting around 7:10 p.m.

“We just have to play our identity, don’t take stupid penalties and work hard,” added Scherger. “We want all our fans there that night to pack the rink and bring and make as much noise as possible to help push us to the second round.”
