It was a tough one last night for the Battlefords North Stars at the Access Communications Centre as they ended up losing 3-2 in overtime to the Weyburn Red Wings in Game 4 of their playoff series.

For first period, it was the Red Wings who scored the first and only goal, coming from Jonah Bierd with just under three minutes left in the period to take a 1-0 lead going into the intermission.

Coming out for second, the North Stars started off slow and had a hard time getting things going offensively. That all changed though when Battlefords was awarded a powerplay and found the back of the net on it, coming from Nikita Ivashenko to even the score 1-1.

Following that, the North Stars gained momentum and started putting pressure on the Red Wings and eventually scored another goal, this time from Jordan Grill on a shot from the blueline to take a 2-1 lead midway through the period.

However, the lead didn’t last long as just over a minute after, Weyburn answered back with a goal of their own to tie the game 2-2.

Throughout the rest of the period, both teams battled trying to take the lead but after no one could score, the game went to the third still tied up.

Then In the third period, it was an all out defensive battle with neither team giving an inch and both playing solid in their own zone. Even though there was good scoring chances from both sides in the final 10 minutes of the period, a goal still didn’t come and the game called for overtime.

For overtime, the battle continued with both teams trading rushes and getting decent opportunities on net, but even then, no one could convert on their chances.

Eventually it all came to an end though, after a shot from the Red Wings was saved but came out on a rebound, leaving a wide open net and Weyburn tapped it in to seal the deal and win the game 3-2.

The North Stars got outshot in the game 47 to 31, went 1/2 on the powerplay and stopped Weyburn all seven times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric had a great performance, stopping 44/47 shots in the contest.

Battlefords now trails in the series 3–1 as they head back to Crescent Point Place in Weyburn this Saturday, March 29th for Game 5.

Puck drop for the game is at 7:00 p.m. and you can tune into the game with the Napa Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast on CJNB/CJNS. Ultra Print game show starts at 6:30 p.m.
