Peanut Productions set to perform murder-mystery for local audiences

The cast and crew of Peanut Productions are putting rehearsals into overdrive as they prepare to show audiences their latest play, If It’s Monday, This Must Be Murder!

The play, which will run April 30 to May 3 at Air Ronge’s Elks Hall, is a murder-mystery/comedy by Pat Cook that involves a murder at a country club and a private eye who is brought in to find the killer. It’s been more than five years since Peanut Productions showcased a murder-mystery.

“We like to rotate things, so some years we will do a murder-mystery and then we will do a southern comedy,” said Director Glenys Plunz.

“Our main goal is we always do comedy, and we always want to do family-friendly content. It’s been several years since before COVID, since we did a murder-mystery, and it was time to do another one. Our audiences do like the variety year-to-year, but there are many who also like to get involved in who’s done it and try to solve the clues themselves and see if they can be the one to solve it.”

The cast, which is all returning actors from previous years, includes Melanie Potts, Brett Angus, Angela Plunz, Lisa Oscienny, Luke Sampson, Nathan Stradeski, Jan Senik, Terry DesRoches and Henry Goertzen.

“We picked the play back in October, but we really got going with our rehearsals in January,” Plunz explained.

“In January and February, we get together once a week and then in March, a couple of more times, and now it is April, and we are going three times per week. There is a lot of commitment and time spent by the actors involved to pull this off.”

Plunz noted cast members return year after year for several reasons.

“It’s about the joy of sharing live theatre,” she remarked.

“It’s an opportunity to practice or gain more skills in live performance, and mostly, we just have fun getting on stage and hearing the laughter. It’s all about the laughter on stage. The community really looks forward to it every year as well.”

All funds after expenses will be donated to the new long-term care centre currently under construction in La Ronge. Showings on Wednesday and Thursday will include rush seating, while showings on Friday and Saturday are reserved seating with snacks available, as well as a cash bar.

Tickets can be purchased at from cast members, Watt Agencies or by emailing peanutslaronge@gmail.com. Tickets usually sell out, so anyone interested should purchase their tickets early.
