Humboldt Fire Department urges caution regarding grass fires

Apr 19, 2025 | 8:00 AM

The Humboldt Fire Department is reminding everyone to be mindful of starting grass fires.

They said in a social media post that the risk of grass fires is quite high this time of year.

“Dry grass, warmer temps, and strong winds create the perfect storm for fast-moving wildfires this time of year,” the post read. “Just one spark from a cigarette, fire pit, or even a hot exhaust can ignite a disaster.”

The department has several tips to help prevent such a disaster taking place.

They include not burning unless necessary, avoiding parking on dry grass, properly disposing of cigarettes and matches, and to always exercise caution on windy days.

“Grass fires can start quickly, spread rapidly and burn very hot, making them especially dangerous,” explained the news release.

Anyone who spots a grass fire should immediately call 9-1-1.
