Busy weekend for Prince Albert Fire Dept.

A combination of grass fires, encampment fires and structure fires kept the Prince Albert Fire Department very busy over the long weekend.

Sunday

At approximately 7:30 a.m., fire crews responded to the 800 block of 28 Street West for a grass fire in an open field to the West of Lakeview Drive. On arrival there was a small area burning, approximately 100′ X 250′. The fire was extinguished, and prevented from spreading to nearby exposures.

Later in the afternoon, the fire dept. responded to the 400 block of 19th Street East for a structure fire. On arrival, crews observed heavy smoke coming from the second storey of the two storey home. The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters but there was significant damage to the upstairs bedroom.

Saturday

At 1a.m., the Prince Albert Fire Department responded to the 800 block of 15th Street East for a unknown outside fire. Crews arrived and found a encampment fire behind a retail store. The fire had already been extinguished by an employee.

At 8a.m., the Prince Albert Fire Department responded to the 800 block of 15th Street East in a treed area, for an outside fire. Upon investigation an unattended encampment fire had spread, and was burning debris. The fire was extinguished and the surrounding area was cooled.

At 6:30 p.m., the Prince Albert Fire Department responded to the 900 block of 22 Street East for a grass fire. Crews arrived and found approximately one acre of grass burning in the golf course. The fire was extinguished. No damage or injuries to report.

At 8:45 p.m., the Prince Albert Fire Department responded to the 2800 block of second Ave. W. for a grass fire. Crews arrived and extinguished a small area of grass burning in a open lot. There was no threat to any structures.

At 9:20 p.m., the Prince Albert Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 700 block of 5 Street East. On arrival flames were seen coming through the roof with a large spruce tree burning in the yard. The fire was quickly extinguished. After the building had cooled it was secured by boarding. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Friday

At approximately 9:15 p.m., the Prince Albert Fire Department responded to the 800 block of 15 Street East for two dumpster fires behind a retail outlet. Crews arrived and extinguished the fires. There was minor damage to both dumpsters.
